Scholarships & Awards

Music Course Subsidy

We provide grants up to a maximum of $300 per appplicant per year to members of the Manawatu Sinfonia or Manawatu Youth Orchestra to attend music courses outside Palmerston North or to assist with advanced tuition which is unavailable locally.

MYO String Scholarship

This Scholarship is established to encourage string players from outside the MYO catchment area to become regular members of either orchestra of the Society.

One Award may be made annually, to the value of $500.

Applicants must be under the age of 25 years, and enrolled at a tertiary education institution in Palmerston North during the year the Award is offered.

The recipient of a MYO String Scholarship is expected to play in a majority of their orchestra's concerts during the year of the Award.

Applicants must have been domiciled outside of the Manawatu region prior to enrolling at their tertiary instituition.

The successful applicant will be selected by a subcommittee of the MYO Inc., comprising the Musical Director and two other members.

MYO Musician Scholarship

This Scholarship is established to encourage musicians to become regular members of either orchestra of the Society.

One Award may be made annually, to the value of $500.
 
The recipient of a MYO Musician Scholarship is expected to play in a majority of their orchestra's concerts during the year of the Award, and will not pay subscription fees.
 
The application is open to all instruments, and the selectors will look favourably on instruments currently needed in the orchestras, younger players, or full time tertiary students.
